It's been a while, kind of... So, MO'FO #5, the fifth one already... Will Oldham is the first in town, he calls me up when he arrives because he needs a MIDI cable for a synthplayer (?!?) and is like: "Man, It'd be cool to hang out as much as we can", and then I don't hear about him again, people are weird sometimes... Turner is second to get to Paris, I get a call from this record store "Ground Zero", because Cody went sttraight there when he got to France in the morning, he probably couldn't remember where I live, we have breakfust together, and he tells me the latest gossip about the city... Andre is next to arrive, just for a few ndays, it's like he would be totally afraid to hang out with his brother and his friends if he doesn't get paid at the end of the night, but that's alright, I love my brother anyway... So for the night before it all starts, I'm supposed to DJ at Pop In with Neman, it is super fucking hot, it is crazy. Still, the place is totally packed and people dance like crazy, when I can hardly even stand mihind the mixing desk. That night ends really late in some bar somewhere.

The next morning, the first day of the festival, I'm supposed to meet up with my band for a radio show, at eight in the morning. I couldn't get my alarm clock to work when I went to bed at Five that night, and was sort of hoping I would wake up by myself, or that my room mate would come back from wherever he was and make noise in the mornning, but none of this happened, and so I wake up at ten, jump in a cab and go to the radio station. I'm two hours late. Apparently, Andre got there first, but he didn't bring a guitar with him, then Neman got there late, with his bongos and Turner who ended up sleeping on a mattress in an alley. It's a rather hudge radio show on National radio, with a bunch of producers and stuff, so they are super mad at us. Then, apparently, Julie makes it to the radio station from Canada, and she's the only one who has an instrument, so they soundcheck. By the time I get there the soundcheck is done, and they have practiced a song by Cohen because bands have to cover somethhing with the house pianist. Anyway, it is pretty fun, and after we're done, I get to properly say hi to Julie, who I haven't seen since she took me for a mini tour in Canada last fall. For some reason that tour is not mentioned in my diary pages shhe tells me, weird, maybe I forgot...

They sold far too many tickets I think... It's already like superhot outside... I'm afraid that too many people would faint or whatever. Anyway... Marie went to get Sonic Boom at the Airport. Man, This guy's music has been so important to me, for so long now, that it feels kind of weird to think that he's gonna play MOFO. The Spacemen 3, Spectrum, EAR and Sonic Boom are all very important musical projects I think, very smart, beautiful and influential, and they are all his. I think I own something like twenty of his records, and I like them a lot, I love them, I remember writing songs about how the S3 were important when I was in High School. I'm not really into meeting the people I admire for their work, because I've been disappointed sometimes, so when Marie brings him back to Mains D'Oeuvres, I just say Hi and go back to what I have to do, that's to say go for a little practice with Julie on Bass, as she thinks she might not remember our songs... While we run through some kind of setlist (Eeerrrrk), Lisa arrives from Brooklyn, she's beautiful as always and I'm very glad she could make it to the festival so we can all sing together for once. Soon, the shows are gonna start, the temperature is already unbarable.
