Turner Cody...
|
| My name is Turner Cody. I am from Boston,
a city 4 hours north of New York. I moved to NY after high school
to be an artist and a musician. I have made 6 albums. My music is
available only through the mail. My web adress is mrturnercody@hotmail.com |

How did you start your
musical carrer ?
|
|
I started making music in high school and then moved to new york
after. i was eighteen at the time and released my first record when
i was nineteen. |
|
| |
i'm not on a label right now, though i've
made 6 records now. For the first three, i wasn't even thinking
about making the kind of music that a label would be interested
in. the recordings were all pretty low fi and usually done on first
takes. the idea was more of documentation than putting together
a real "album". we did overdubs and such, but they were
often one take only. the idea was to simply capture what went on
in a room with musician freinds playing together. it was fun to
do music in that mindset. this last record with herman düne
was still in the same vien, althouhg slightly more production minded.
it was the first time i played with a drum kit. david plays on most
of the tracks. neman plays kit on two tracks and percussion on two
tracks. it was fun to play with both of them. they have their own
styles. andre basically produced the record, in addition to playing
bass and doing all the backing vocals. he was definitely the man
in charge in the studio. i'd love to be able to put it out on a
label some day. its nice to have your stuff distributed. -i've collaborated
on songs with andre. we did a record together this fall called "chills".
he's great to write songs with. all the songs on this record were
mine. i did collaborate lyrically on a few songs with freinds of
mine from the US. both andre and david wrote great partrs for the
music though on the record. andre sings back up vocals which are
pretty much a first for me. i'm a huge fan of backing vocals now
due to andre. david does plays two guitar solos. the first is on
a classical guitar, and the other one is really "sonic youth"
sounding. david is a great guitar player. |

Have you ever played as a band?
|
|
| I played with band last year that I named
The Cody Choir. I play in a band now called The Class Act. I write
the songs with another fellow. We just made our first album, Act
One. |
|
| |
What does "antifolk" mean to you ? |
| |
Santifolk does not really mean anything as it would describe my
music or my friends music. it really has to do with the place where
play and hang out in new york called the sidewalk cafe where people
talk about antifolk being a certain kind of music. for me theres
only music...what i play is more folk than anti. |
What's your idea of a great song ? |
|
| a great song has rythm, a good melody,
and good lyrics. it must have all these things to be great. if it
has only two of them it is only good. if a song has really bad lyrics
it cannot be good. |

Your best memory with them... |
| |
I already have many good memories with them, but I would say that
our drive from Maine to Montreal through the snow and mountains
was the best. |
|
My worst memory? thats a tuff one. I can't say that I associate
anything bad with Herman Dune.
|
| |
